Donte Stallworth [Cleveland Browns player] hit and killed Mario Reyes [59] a pedestrian with his Bentley on Saturday morning around 7 am on a busy causeway between Miami and Miami Beach. Reyes was taken to a nearby trauma center, where was pronounced dead about an hour later.

Mario Reyes was a crane operator for a shipping company. He had just come off the overnight shift and was crossing the street to catch a bus home. Reyes was taken to a trauma center and pronounced dead there about an hour later. It’s not clear if he was crossing legally.

Police says Donte Stallworth was collaborating with the investigators and is not charged. Officers drew blood to test for drugs or alcohol, which is standard procedure in this type of accident investigation. The results from the test could take anywhere from three days to three weeks. Stallworth said in a statement they were aware of what happened. His agent did not comment on this but wrote that they understand the seriousness of this.

Stallworth signed a $35 million contract with the Browns for seven years as a free agent before last season. Stallworth hardly played because he was hurt. He was due a $4.75 million signing bonus on Friday.

Stallworth finished last season with just 17 catches for 170 yards. He was slowed all season by a nagging hamstring injury and made just seven starts for the Browns. He had his best season with the Saints in 2005, when he made a career-high 70 receptions for 945 yards and seven touchdowns.
